Technology Summary:
Grace Davison, the first to commercialize catalytic CO combustion technology, has been a leader in CO combustion promoters since this technology was introduced to the refining industry in the mid-1970's.
Grace Davison manufactures its own proprietary alumina support. This capability allows Davison to optimize the base physically for maximum retention as well as catalytically for maximum activity. The unsurpassed attrition resistance of Davison combustion promoters assures that the maximum amount of promoter is retained in the unit. Since CO promoters are always most active in their fresh state, the greater the percentage of additive retained when first introduced to the FCCU, the better the activity response.
CP-3, an industry standard for many years, combines Grace Davison's attrition-resistant alumina support with high concentrations of noble metal. As a result, CP-3 provides maximum initial activity as well as excellent resistance to poisoning by contaminants such as lead and antimony.
CP-5 contains an intermediate concentration of noble metal and is suitable for units requiring greater dispersion of platinum throughout the FCC circulating inventory. CP-5 is an excellent "all-purpose" CO promoter.
CPA provides high platinum stability at minimum cost. The high-stability CPA base allows moderate amounts of noble metal to be used since the rate of promoter deactivation is greatly reduced. CPA is suitable for units requiring maximum dispersion of platinum in the circulating inventory.
