FCC Equilibrium Catalyst Analysis Program

Most FCCU performance problems can be identified from telltale evidence on equilibrium catalyst. Ecat analyses provide the necessary information to determine the source of a problem, whether it is a loss in activity, fluidity or poor design.

Grace Davison was the first FCC supplier to offer Ecat analysis, beginning shortly after supplying the first synthetic FCC in 1942. A formal program was established in 1947; today, it ranks as the premier program in the industry. Through the extensive use of robotics and automated equipment, Grace Davison analyzes over 15,000 equilibrium catalyst samples each year.

Samples, which come from all over the world, are immediately submitted for analyses upon arrival at either our laboratories at Curtis Bay, Maryland or Worms, Germany. Results are normally completed within two to three days and 18 test results are routinely reported.

Results are transmitted to the refiner by mail, fax or electronic mail and the results can then be used as a guide for optimum catalyst management or in identifying potential process or mechanical problems.

Typical Equilibrium Catalyst Analyses Performed:

  • Microactivity
  • Particle Size
  • Pore Volume
  • Surface Area
  • Aluminum
  • Antimony
  • Copper
  • Iron
  • Nickel
  • Sodium
